Summary
My sigma 28-80 failed and I needed a lens for my niece's wedding.I first used this lens, got from my friend. The results were excellent , sharp with good contrast. A few shots were enlarged to 8"x12" and results excellent. I decided to go for it and got thro my cousin from US as the item could not be found in india.

Strengths
Sharp, fasr autofocus in my Maxxum5. Also equally fast AF with my 800si which I got along with this lens. No apparant distorsion .

Weaknesses
Nothing

Summary
This is one of the sharpest Minolta zooms around and probably the best value. Because of the relatively short zoom range, the lens is very sharp and has no noticable distortion. Also because of the zoom range, new buyers tend to go for inferior zooms with longer coverage. That makes this lens a real bargain for those in the know.

Strengths
Small, light, good value, sharp throughout the range, good contrast, low flare, no distortion.

Weaknesses
Could have a longer zoom range, but that would cause distortion and softening. No metal mount but it's not been a problem.

Customer Service
Not required for this lens, although Minolta seem to be really excellent on the occasions I have dealt with them..

Summary
This minolta lens includes macro to one quarter life size. Three test rolls out in the desert convinced me that autofocus cameras make picture taking that much more fun, especially on a lightweight Maxxum 5. This lens may be somewhat limiting in range, but more than makes up for it with very crisp close-ups, excellent flare control, and a very responsive autofocus. Leaving LA for the Salton Sea, I shot architecture, dunes, geologic formations, and general desert isolation landscapes. This lens performed extremely well. I will never return to the bulky equipment of decades past. Of course, the true test of a good lens is in 11 by 14 inch and up enlarging. Overall, this camera lens combination makes picture taking so simple and fun while producing superb results.

Strengths
quick focus ability, sharp optics

Weaknesses
none for a lens in this class

Summary
The lens came with the camera and I choose it over the other consumer zooms (28-80) because of the faster aperture.

The lens is gem, it looks plasticky, but is very sharp and contrasty!

Strengths
Cheap, small, light, fast AF, great optical performance, little flare problems.

Weaknesses
No metal bayonett, but it is NOT a big deal!
Limited zoom range; that´s why I went ultimately with a M. 28-85.
It is usually not supplied with a hood.
Visible distortion from 35 to 50mm.
