Summary
I had trouble with this camera, particularly with getting video images off of it, and onto the computer. Everything worked fine. If anyone knows how to get video images off of it, please let me know. thanks.

Summary
This has proven to be an excellent purchase for us. The camera has a wide range of features and modes, more than most people will ever want or need to use.
The camera is packed with features that you normally don't find in a camera in this price range -- 3.5" LCD display, built in light, etc.
Highly recommended. Despite what the other reviewer said, I never had any problems making it work with Windows XP -- no need for additional drivers, just plug it in and the operating system detects it and away you go.
Strengths
- 3.5" LCD
- Built in light
- Numerous video modes and special effects
- Easy operating system integration
- Very sharp video
Weaknesses
- Digital still camera produces poor quality stills at a max resolution of 640x480.
- Only a 10x optical zoom -- digital zoom tends to pixelate the picture quickly
Customer Service
The one question I had for JVC was submitted via email and answered very quickly -- within one or two days.

Summary
I hate my JVC GR-DVL817U. If you have Windows XP, I don't recommend buying this Digital video camera at all. It doesn't matter how good the camera, if you can't view the pictures in it. Not to mention how you are going to get your PC to start working again once you have installed the driver provided by JVC website. Don't bother emailing the consumer support, they don't respond. It's safe to say I will probably never buy any JVC product if I can help it.

Summary
Definately a good purchase for that price with all the needed features . But the built in Digital Camera does not provide high resolution images .
